Sometimes its not that we need to stay days and days on our tour... its just a day outing may be from the office or a set of friends. The use of time and the distance is always important because most of us want having a change and sometimes a little walk rather than sitting inside the vehicle for a long time. That is why you have to plan your tour well before everything because how much planned is important to get things done on time.

Some of our valuable members who visit Riverston sometimes come for a single day tour and they ask the us to plan a package for them that they can utilize the time well. As you may already know about Riverston, it is a place that you can spend days and days there. But for a single day tour it is important to know what places to see and how to be relaxed.

You will have to reach Matale Town at least by 8-9AM in the morning..... From there, another 1 hour drive will make you to reach to Riverston summit... For our members we arrange a hot spicy breakfast on the way to Summit so that you will fee the real taste of a breakfast from a village...

You can spend a little time up in the Riverston summit and walk around a little bit. May be have a walk towards the Transmitting Towers to get the best feeling from the windy environment and also the misty cold. Then it is time to get back to the Pitawala Pathana. You will see an amazing view on the way there and having taken a ticket from the office there, you can get to Pitawala Pathana and then to Mini Worlds End. May be it is a bit of a walk for you and will make you very happy for sure... those who got the cameras will have 1000s of sceneries and take the best shot for you...

Next it is the Thelgamu oya... as most of the visitors go towards Illukkumbura and then to Thelgamu oya.. the place is well for having a rest and then even a meal and to have a nice natural bath.... Remember there can be places that you will not safe to jump in and our guides will lead you to the most suitable place. But it will be more fun to get the Thelgamu Oya via Pitawala, Rathkinda villages. You will get the scene of Manigala so closer and again, get your camera ready... !

After the bath or so, feel our meal prepared by older village people that will taste like no other... So once you enjoy the lunch it is time to get ready to leave there... but remember a little spare time of 30 minutes will be able you to see "Wadda Pani Ella" which is very beautiful...

So now the time is ready for getting back...

Planning your tour

Organizing a tour is not as easy as it looks. Especially if it is for a place where you have never ever been and it makes so hard if the place is far away. The worst case is that you can’t even drive before organizing it because it’s far and incur additional cost. Thus it is unable to get public transport because its lack in that area. So what shall you do? Get an idea from a friend who has been there before or just forgetting about it.

Riverston is not much famous as much as Horton plans but is much more beautiful and hundreds of places to see from a single day tour to even a three or four day tour. There are trekking trails, waterfalls, nature scenes, natural bathing places, camping sites, bird watching activities, cycling activities and much more to do there. Most importantly it is amazingly beautiful. What you get by been there is much more than the above list. The climate is important. Most of the time, it is getting changed at least once a hour from misty to windy and sunshine to a little rain. The cold wind will always make not only the body feel like heaven but the mind relaxing calm environment is not able to get from anywhere around Sri Lanka.

So to get Riverston Summit which you can get by driving 20-30Kms from Matale is the most common place that most people visit and even know. Of course it is beautiful to see and many meters to walk that you will see thousands of scenes that the photographers are dying to get one like that and the cold wind will make you so relax. But after the summit the road will be continuing towards Pitawala Pathana and you can even go to Wasgamuwa Nationa Park by driving approximately 1-2 hours.

What most visitors who are coming by their own vehicles or hired ones will certainly come to the summit and get rest there and if they get sometimes left they may drive to Thelgamu Oya to get a bath and then drive back home. But this can be much more interesting if you can plan your tour little better and here is a point where we can help you.

Mostly our clients start their journey from Colombo or so in the evening of a day so that they will get Matale Town and then Ratthota Bazar which is the last town that you will get when you drive to Riverston when it’s getting dark or even midnight. From there onwards, you won’t see many houses or sometimes you get very beautiful sceneries as well. So morning is the best time that we recommend our visitors to drive.

We facilitate bungalow and hotel rooms or even guest houses based on the visitors request and the budget and you will get the rest at there in the night. The important fact is that then you will have the following full day and will not be tired of driving few hours because you have already come to the boundary of Riverston. So now it is the time to rest the night and you can start from there on following day early morning. So you will get the best timing to reach to the summit of Riverston and then will have more time to visit Pitawala Pathana, Mini Worlds End and the usually the rest of the places that most visitors go and before getting too dark, you will be able to get back.  However this is the primary tour that we suggest you to arrange but there are lots of places that you will be able to see and feel the nature. We will discuss it soon but for now I thnk it is enough for you. So remember Riverston is a place that you can stay days and get relax. 

How to get Riverston

    As we have understood that may of the travelers are not aware of how to get Riverston, we hope to let you all know the routes that you can get there. First if you come from Colombo, you have many routes. Lets discuss them.
    If you directly come to Riverston the easiest way is to come via Kandy and Matale. Click here [http://goo.gl/maps/kAdA] to get the direction from the Google. If you are driving a car which the ground clearance is much lower, this is the route that you will have to get because till Matale, you get A9 road which is good. To the camp site the distance from Colombo would be around 180Kms and usually to Matale you will be able to come within 4 hours of a drive where you may stop somewhere Kadugannawa [just before Kandy] for a break if you would like to.
  Also you can avoid Kandy Town where you will turn left from Peradeniya Junction and take the Katugasthota road to get Kandy - Matale route. You will get it from Katugasthota where it won't take much time to get Matale. However once passing Matale town, take the Raththota bus route to and it will be directing to Riverston.
But the shortest path to there is this [http://goo.gl/maps/1223] where you will get to Kurunegala and take the Matale route from there once passing Ibbagamuwa. Till Ibbagamuwa, Matale Junction the road is good but from there to Matale its somewhat "Not Good" type. However if you need to avoid traffic then better taking this route. Also you will get some climate changes on the way from Kurunegala to Matale too.
   Both these ways will drive you to Matale and then to Pitawala Camp Site. But If you are coming from the other way which you may be coming from Hasalaka or Wasgamuwa or even Dambulla. Then you will have to come to Pallegama and then take the Illukkumbura route towards Pitawala.If you come from Hasalaka, or Mahiyangana you will have to pass Hettipola and take the road to Pallegama and then to Camp Site. To coming from Wasgamuwa National Park Clike Here [http://goo.gl/maps/qlWc]. This also explains that the way you can visit Wasgamuwa National Park from camp site. Its not far where we arrange the tours as you would like.
  When you travel via Matale, by passing the summit of Riverston, be careful because there can be a thick mist on the way.

Look at the following picture. You may notice the location sometimes if you have ever been there but can anyone imagine how beautiful it is to see there when this is taken.

It is almost closer to 1PM where we were driving towards pitawala pathana, with 4 visitors who came with us for a camp site. suddenly it was covered by a mist where it was not expected. lightning was so beautiful and we could manage to get few shots of the moment.
The visitors were so lucky for seeing this and this was the starting point for them to be amazed with the beauty of the mother nature. We could drive to the location where we arranged the lunch by driving further 30 minutes and could be able to locate the camping site. We need to let you all know that if you get a view like this just stop a little bit off the road and jump out from the car. it is worth seeing it 1000 times rather than what we taken in to the picture. In this area there are several places where you can park your vehicle off the road and walk in to the field a little bit for a change. You will hardly find leaches but don't worry you will notice once they stick in to the skin of your feet. Have a safe tour with more amazing sceneries.
